Lane Thomas back on the IL. It's easy to forget that he was expected to be a major force in the middle of the lineup since he was only a Guardian for a couple months in 2024: one remarkably unproductive, one highly productive. His numbers so far this year are stunningly bad
7 hits [one a double] in 59 at bats. 3 walks. 22 strikeouts
last August looks good by comparison 11 for 77, 4 doubles, 9 walks, 33 strikeouts

Re: General Discussion
14152Which didn't happen. PD noted that Kayfus did not start Friday, which suggested he was coming to Cleveland. But he later pinch hit and finished the game.
Instead Fry was activated and joined the team today

The Guardians lost last night to the flailing Mariners and the Tigers have a 9.5 game lead in the AL Central.
Barring some kind of miracle, the Tigers will win the AL Central. Time for the Guardians to aim for a wildcard.
Someone, anyone, not named Steven Kwan, Jose Ramirez or Carlos Santana needs to consistently hit the ball with authority. And their bullpen lefties need to discover how to be effective. Here is Nick's recap of another frustrating game.
Terry Pluto has some notes. He says John Means is throwing in Goodyear. The best news from yesterday was that Shane Bieber has resumed throwing.
I don't know what else to say. They'll either figure something out on this road trip... or things will get bad.
Jose's on-base streak went to 38 with a walk, at least.
[ The point being, The Guardians are 10 games behind to make things easy to explain. 10 behind will take a minimum of 2 weeks to overcome. Tigers lose 10 in a row and the G's win 10 in a row. (Ain't gonna happen). then there is what I call the see-saw effect. You lose 2 we lose 2. You win 1 we win 1. You lose 1 we win 1. We pick up a game. You win 1 we lose 1. We are back to even. So on and so forth.....Could take weeks even months to catch up. ]

Re: General Discussion
14155I was excited when we had a 5 game lead at the all star break in 2024.
We ended up the regular season with a 6.5 game lead over the Royals and Tigers.

Re: General Discussion
14156Get this i'm watching Blue Jays and DBacks. Gimmy got HBP and was on first base with Josh Naylor there. Those 2 were obviously enjoying the conversation at 1B.
Then a couple innings later Josh hits a blast to CF and Myles Straw hits the fence and got his foot caught and went down in a heep. Naylor and Gimmy both went out together to be with Straw. Straw had to leave the game.
But to see those 3 guys together like that was a little surreal.
