Devastating was the attendance of the fans in the stadiums of baseball

One of the biggest fears of baseball teams early this season was fulfilled, the little influx of fans in the stadiums has been a topic of conversation throughout the season.

The great absenteeism was the public, the fanatics, the ones who accompanied their team every day, with songs, shouts, colorful exhibits, and noise makers. Customs that are a part of Creole baseball. That joy this season has been supplanted by low attemdance and a lot of empty chairs.

The leaders of the eight teams that make life possible for Creole baseball tried to encourage the participation of the fanatics in the stadiums, but in many occasions this attempt has failed by not being able to obtain the regular attendance that has been observed in past seasons.

Strategies that had no effect

Enter two and pay one, combo tickets with 30% discount, free transfer of tickets for fans, free entry promotion for women.

These have been part of the promotions of the teams that make up the LVBP , to draw the attention of fans and make it economical to attend the stadiums.

These promotions had little effect for the encounters except for the clashes between the chief rivals ( Caracas Lions vs. Navegantes del Magallanes ).
Image
The economic situation that currently dwells in Venezuela seems to be the main cause of the low turnout of fans at baseball stadiums.

The Venezuelan has prioritized his needs putting aside the option to go to the stadium with his family. Attending a ball game ranges from 40,000 to 80,000 Bsf depending on the type of tickets you buy or what you eat inside the park.

Miguel Sandoval, a fan of the Navegantes de Magallanes was consulted on this issue. "Going to a game with my wife and 2 children, I leave the whole fortnight. We buy some trinkets but the food and drink is expensive. I will not let my family see the game as watch others eat and, for that we do something at home and we be happy there, "sighed Sandoval.

In addition to this, leaving the stadium after 10 at night is not a very pleasant experience. Insecurity is also one of those factors that prevents fans from attending games.

If you do not have a car the circumstance is complicated a little more since a taxi transfer has a minimum price of 4,000 bolivars depending on the time, not to mention that some taxi lines do not drive in the so-called red zones that exist in the cities.

The quality of play this season has also been one of the shortcomings for the low attendance in the stadiums this season.

"This year the quality of baseball has not been as expected. The quality is not as it has been in the past seasons. The games are very long. Teams have shown many shortcomings and the fans think twice about going to the stadium to spend a lot of money for a game that's bad. We expect more. "said Yoel Garcia, a fan of the Sharks.

Garcia normally would attend 20 or more games a season. This year he has attended only one game.
“Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a new game every day, and that's the way baseball is.”

Carlos Baerga, only had words of praise for his players and coaches.

Aguadilla sharks Can Hold Their Foreheads High

Despite the lack of payment on the part of the owner,
and few reinforcements, their leader praised them for the effort

They were absent for 65 years, and in its return to the Professional Baseball League Roberto Clemente the Sharks of Aguadilla did not have many reasons to celebrate.

They had a nightmare both on the field and with the administration, but yesterday, one day after their elimination on Tuesday night, their leader and general manager Carlos Baerga, only had words of praise for his players and his Coaches

The Sharks had a terrible start going 1-12 and could never recover, although they played much better in the second half of the season. Not including last night's game, they were 10-27, but the push was not enough to advance to the postseason.

"We decided that we would enjoy the game. Our work is on the field. What happens off the field we have no control of, "said Baerga about his message to his team at mid-season, when in addition to being in the basement, the players had not received their pay for the first fortnight.

Aguadilla was able to see professional baseball because the body approved the transfer of the Ponce Lions during the off season.

From the hand of Israel Roldán and a group of supporters, the franchise was purchased. But, in spite of the enthusiasm for the return of professional ball to Aguadilla, the repeated losses of the Sharks combined with the erratic behavior of the owner, Roldán, who failed to pay his players, and eventually it was the league that bailed him out. The bail out was not just for the balance of the debt for the first two weeks of the tournament, but the rest of the season. Meanwhile, the coaches were not paid for the first month.

"Yesterday (Tuesday night) I told the players at the meeting, 'I'm very proud of you. You never quit. You came with the same spirit and attitude of making an effort every day,'" Baerga acknowledged.

"With all the adversities and storms, our team kept their heads held high. We lost nine games in extra innings and I think we were the team that lost the most games by one race, "said the coach speaking from memory.

The reality is that it was the Giants who lost the most games by one run, but the Sharks were not far apart. What is true, and Baerga stressed, is that the Sharks were also the team with fewest reinforcements.

"We started the season 1-12 and finished (eliminated) just three days from the end of the season. The players never quit, "he emphasized. "We lost players the seventh or eighth day of the season and the only reinforcements we had left were two. Nothing more than Michael Nix and Jarret Leverett."

Baerga said the focus was on developing young talent and considered that they fulfilled that task. In that sense, Baerga mentioned new players like Alexis Pantoja, Yariel Gonzalez and pitcher Joshua Torres as some of those who seized the opportunity.

"These are the things that fulfill us. These are the things that fulfill me as a leader and manager."

Baerga said that despite all the pitfalls he faced in his dual role in the team, he is willing to return next season, but made a caveat.

"I will be evaluating if I will be doing both (managing and serving as general manager)," he concluded.
“Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a new game every day, and that's the way baseball is.”

Breaks the Old Record of 67 WINS

The leader Matanzas will face Granma and defending champion Ciego de Avila will face Villa Clara in the semifinals of the Cuban championship.

The Crocodiles did not settle for the mark of 67 wins. On Sunday and on Tuesday they doubled up on the Avilan Tigers by scores of 9-0 and 8-4, to raise the new record of wins to 69.

The last day of the qualifying stage of the 56th National Baseball Series, Matanzas, defeated Ciego de Ávila again and extended its record to 70 wins in a format of 90 games.

Matanzas who is finishing the campaign similar to the way they started it when they clustered two winning streaks of 18 and 19 games, finishes the season with a run of eight straight games.

Eternal rivals take the bus home in January

Caracas -

The Magellan Navigators could not beat the Caribbeans of Anzoátegui and joined the ranks of the Lions of Caracas as the teams that failed to advance to the postseason party of the LVBP.

The Turkish tickets were handed to them by the Caribbeans while the Bravos of Margarita gave away tickets to the Leones team and classified in the process.

Los Navegantes del Magallanes received tickets yesterday joining the Leones del Caracas on the ride home for the 2016-2017 season LVBP regular round after falling 4-1 against the Caribes de Anzoátegui.

The results of both games also defined the group of six teams that advanced to the playoffs. They are: Lara Cardinals, Anzoátegui Caribs, Zulia Eagles, Aragua Tigers, La Guaira Sharks and Bravos de Margarita.

The classification of these clubs meant that the eternal rivals were eliminated from the postseason for only the second time in the history of the league.

The first occasion that caused this situation was during the campaign 2007-2008. At that time the two groups with the greatest tradition in the country were accompanied by Zulia, and that second part of the tournament was played under the format of the defunct Round Robin, also called "all against all."

Trying not to emulate this first fact, the Turks sent Felix Hernandez to the mound to dominate the Anzoatiguenses. "El Rey," was the winner of the 2010 edition of the Cy Young Award in the American League and was chosen with the task. Unfortunately, the Orientals did not co-operate and scored two runs in the first and two in the fifth and sent the king to the showers.

Felix Hernandez (0-1) was the defeated pitcher, while Daryl Thompson (1-1) was a winner.

The party island

The Braves of Margarita, meanwhile, sealed their pass to the postseason by defeating for second consecutive day the Lions of Caracas.

After these results, the playoffs looked like this: Cardinals vs Bravos in Barquisimeto; Caribes vs Sharks in Pto. La Cruz and Eagles vs Tigers in Maracaibo.

These three series will begin next January 2.
