RBI doubles for DeLauter and Ramirez. Let's hope we have lots of them hitting back to back this season.

Nice game for Bazzana: 3 run homer and a single in 3 at bats.
Brito at 3rd base made 2 throwing errors, went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts
Valera single and strike out. 429/1357
Velazquez singles in his only AB 600/1267,
Alfonsin Rosario, now up to 4 K's in 5 AB

In the battle for the last spot in the bullpen, Brogdan stays well ahead of Holderman
Brogden: 1 1 0 0 0 2
Holderman 2/3 4 5 5 1 0

Couple springs ago Jack Leftwich impressed with 5 2/3 shutout innings 2 hits and 1 walk vs 5 K
Then he got hurt and has been very effectrive in AA or AAA
Looking good this spring with 2 identical lines: 1 0 0 0 0 2 of course he's facing other minor leaguers late in games

Kwan's first ST start in CF today.

Rocchio again at 2nd and Arias at SS. I wonder if perhaps you were looking at a 2025 interview when Brito was competing for the 2nd base spot with Arias and Rocchio was playing short.

Cecconi making his first start of the spring. Did not sign up for the Italian national team.

Cleveland Guardians Spring Training Prospect Report: 2/24/26

Bazzana leaves for the WBC with a BANG

Arthur Kinney
Feb 25

STARTERS

Travis Bazzana (2B): 2-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI - Bazzana’s final game with the Guardians before heading to Tokyo to play for Australia in the World Baseball Classic as a successful one, to say the least, as his three-run blast in the second (107.8 MPH, 423 feet) provided all of the Guards scoring yesterday in Glendale.

George Valera (RF): 1-2, 1 R, 1 K - While not as impressive as Bazzana’s, Valera’s performance towered over those of most of his teammates yesterday.

Angel Genao (SS): 0-2 - Genao’s Tuesday was representative of the general malaise that seemed to hang over the Guards.

Juan Brito (3B): 0-3, 2 K, 2 E - A day to forget for Brito, both offensively and defensively.

NOTABLE RESERVES

Ralphy Velazquez (1B): 1-1 - Velasquez is slashing 1.267 to start the Spring.

Wuilfredo Antunez (RF): 1-2 - Antunez got a hit, which was a feat in itself for a Guardian yesterday.

Dayan Frias (SS): 0-0, 1 BB - Frias’ leadoff walk in the eighth was the only free pass the Guardians would get all day.

RESERVES

Kahlil Watson (LF-CF): 0-1, 1 K

Cooper Ingle (C ): 0-2, 1 K

Alfonsin Rosario (LF): 0-1, 1 K

Juan Benjamin (2B): 0-1

NOTABLES

Jay Driver: 0.2 IP, 1 H - Driver allowed only one inherited run to score (on an Andy Pages sac fly) to get the Guardians out of the bottom of the first after a rough start to Gavin Williams’ Spring.

Jack Jasiak: 0.1 IP, 1 K - Jasiak dispatched Keston Hiura on four pitches to get the Guards out of a third frame that saw Colin Holderman struggle.

Austin Peterson: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R (all earned). 1 BB, 1 K - His fifth inning was aided by a spectacular catch by Nolan Jones. His re-entry effort in the sixth saw the Dodger hitters convert hard contact into a festival of base hits.

Cam Schuelke: 0.1 IP, 3 BB, 1 K - Schuelke walked three batters in a row (allowing both inherited runners to score) on 14 pitches before finally ending the fifth on a strikeout.

Jack Carey: 0.1 IP - This outing can’t really be evaluated as his lone pitch was hit hard down the first base line but tight at Velazquez, who made an impressive play.

Jack Leftwich: 1 IP, 2 K - This three up, three down eighth was an oasis in a desert of lousy prospect hurling yesterday.

Tanner Burns: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K - Another solid inning of work to wrap up a chaotic day on the mound.

2 run homer today by Brito; 3 run homer by Halpin
Valera continues to hit pretty well, a single in 3 AB: 400/.1155 OPS
Manzardo stays cold. 0-3 with a walk. 100/ 350 OPS
Jones 0-3 with 2 K's; now 167/667 with nothing to show in his last 3 games
Genao 0=2 125/ 347. He's our top prospect currently in action wtih Bazzana abroad; and DeLauter resting.
Watson with a single, is ;hitting .800 2.033. I'd like to see him with more opportunities against front line pitchers.

Joey Cantillo perhaps takes the lead in race for No. 6 starter; 4 runs, 4 hits [3 of them doubles] a walk in 1 1/3 [2 of the runs unearned\
Festa shutout inning
Herrin 1 inning, 1 run 2 hits.

Cleveland Guardians Spring Training Prospect Report 2/25/26

DeLauter a late scratch; Chourio has good day

Matthew Kennell

Feb 26

Scoreboard:
Texas Rangers 11, Cleveland Guardians 4 - Statcast

Starters:

Petey Halpin (RF): 0-1, BB - Halpin was a late addition to the lineup card after Chase DeLauter was scratched with lower body soreness. Halpin grounded out back to the pitcher and drew a walk in his two plate appearances on Wednesday. His comebacker was tracked at over 107 mph off the bat, however, the second hardest-hit ball of the contest. Manager Stephen Vogt talked about the swing adjustments he has made in the off-season in the post-game press conference and mentioned that he will be getting a lot of looks this spring.

Notable Reserves:

Jaison Chourio (CF): 1-2, R, 2B - Chourio turned on an inside cutter and hit a rocket to right for a double in his ninth inning plate appearance. It was tracked at 106.3 mph off the bat.

Jacob Cozart (PR-C): 1-2, R, RBI - Cozart singled to score a run in the ninth when he batted with runners on the corners and scored when he entered as a pinch runner following a Bo Naylor double.

Jose Devers (SS): 1-3 - Devers had just one hit in his three at-bats, but that single was the hardest-hit ball of the game at nearly 110 mph and had an expected batting average of .910.

Wuilfredo Antunez (LF): 1-3, R, 2B, RBI - Antunez turned on a first pitch inside as well for a double, only his drove in a run for the team. Unlike Chourio, Antunez did it on a slider towards the knees.

Juan Benjamin (1B): 1-2, RBI, DP - Benjamin hit a two-out groundball single that plated one in the sixth, one of eight total contacts that were above 100 mph off the lumber.

Other Reserves:

Dayan Frias (2B): 0-0, 2 BBs, DP - Frias was active on the basepaths after drawing two walks.

Dauri Fernandez (3B): 0-2, DP - Fernandez didn’t leave the infield with a popup and forceout groundball, but he beat out a potential double play ball.

Kody Huff (PH-DH): 0-1 - A soft groundball was the result of his lone at-bat.

Ryan Cesarini (RF): 0-1, BB - A walk in the sixth and groundout in the eighth were the outcomes of Cesarini’s plate appearances.

Relievers:

Xavier Martinez (RP): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BBs, 0 Ks - Nothing fell directly under his ledger, but a bases loaded walk, fielder’s choice and sacrifice fly resulted in runs for the Rangers while Martinez was on the mound.

Yorman Gomez (RP): 1.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 BBs, K - A single, walk and homerun before Gomez could even get settled in on the mound hurt his performance.

Izaak Martinez (RP): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BBs, 0 Ks - Martinez got two outs on one batter faced when he rolled a double play to end an inning with a crooked number for Texas.

Franco Aleman (RP): 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BBs, 0 Ks - The Rangers got to Aleman early with a homerun on the first batter he faced and they were able to manufacture a second run in the eighth as well.

Matt Jachec (RP): 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BBs, K - Jachec recorded a K on the only batter he faced.

Steven Perez (RP): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BBs, 2 Ks - The southpaw punched out a pair in his inning of work on Wednesday with four whiffs on seven swings. His fastball touched 96 mph.

Civ, it is called showcasing Arias. There is no room for Arias after this season. Barring injury Rocchio is your shortstop this year. Then Genoa will take over at SS somewhere in 2027. Currently 2nd base is a place holder for Bazzana.

To probably no one's surprise, DeLauter is out of the lineup again today. I see no update at MLB or the PD. I am sure he is being rested "with an maximum with caution" but he's going to have to show an ability to play nearly every day.

Cleveland Guardians Spring Training Prospect Report: 2/26/

Brito gets in on the act, Valera making a good impression

Justin Lada

Feb 27

Seattle Mariners 8, Cleveland Guardians 7

Starters

George Valera (RF): 1-3, K - A nice 101.1 MPH single off MLB reliever Cooper Criswell for Valera, who is impacting the ball when he makes contact this spring. Strikeouts are still there, but always will be.

Juan Brito (2B): 1-2, HR, 2 RBI - Brito also popped a 101 MPH hit off Criswell, a homer. It’s good to see him get in on the action after some rough early days. He’ll need that confidence even in spring.

Angel Genao (SS): 0-2 - 2 96 MPH groundouts for Genao. That’s strong exit velo for him, but not a surprise that they were both into the ground. That is kind of the next step for him. The question is IF he can take it.

Notable Reserves

Petey Halpin (CF): 2-2, HR, 3 RBI - His homer came off a lesser named arm, but it was 102 off the bat. He’s had some nice at bats this spring, but certainly hasn’t faced any named arms.

Alfonsin Rosario (RF): 0-1, BB, K - Arizona doesn’t agree with Rosario. He struggled badly in the AFL and is struggling this spring in limited time. He’s been really exposed by pitchers since his promotion to Double-A.

Kahlil Watson (LF): 1-2 - No success against any pitchers of note, but his groundout today was harder than his single. 105 for the groundout. We know the ability to hit the ball hard is there though.

Milan Tolentino (2B): 1-1, BB - A walk but also a soft single against a lesser experienced arm.

Jose Devers (3B): 1-1, RBI - A soft single off the same arm drove in a run for Devers.

Pitchers

Hunter Stanley: 0.2IP, BB - Retired Randy Arozarena and Dominic Canzone in relief of Joey Cantillo.

Doug Nikhazy: IP, 3H, 2ER, BB - Two big time hitting prospects for the Mariners had a good day off of Nikhazy who struggled with control and command in this one.

Ryan Webb: IP, K - Once again we see Webb adding some sinkers to the arsenal and he was 93-94, which is a nice sign for him. Perhaps the new sinker and a relief role can help him some.

Tommy Mace: IP, H, ER, 2K - Managed to get some whiffs on the slider but was around 91 with the fastball.

Other Reserves

Kody Huff (C) 0-2, BB, 2K

Ralphy Velazquez (1B): 0-2, RBI

Cameron Barstad (DH): 0-1

Welbyn Francisca (SS): 0-2, K
